When a leading provider of broadband solutions wanted to
create a solution that would act as Bridging Firewall for Wireless Home
Gateway, NeST was their first choice. The objective was to build a firewall and
bridge that goes between broadband and Wi-Fi. Target environment is hotels and
offices.
NeST Solution
The
primary function of the product was to provide adequate security to wireless
clients and to prevent theft of service for the service providers.
- Protection from theft-of-service and denial-of-service attacks for
ISPs (potential primary customers of the product).
- Privacy for the clients (end-users).
- Security for the wireless clients from the common risks associated
with access to Internet.
The
developed product allows authorized wireless client to do the following:
- Login to the network, by supplying a user name and password.
- Access machines in the local network (both wired and wireless)
according to his user settings.
- Access the Internet from behind a firewall.
The
software shall allow an administrator (the wireless ISP) to do the following:
- Maintain account information of the clients
- Manage access control lists (ACL)
- Change the firewall settings (which machines and applications to
allow)
- It runs on a Pentium machine on RedHat Linux platform.
